We meet weekly in Pocatello to practice fighting, crafts, classes, and socializing. Our meetings are free, and membership is not required to join us and learn more about this amazing group and the Middle Ages we study.
We would love to meet you!
Location
Our regular weekly meetings are at the Idaho State University Quad in Pocatello, Idaho, on Tuesdays at 6PM. See the map below for details.
As a backup, we will move our meetings to the open space on the 4th floor of the Idaho State University Fine Arts Building (The 'Art Commons').
The address for the building is Fine Arts, 698 E Dillon St, Pocatello, ID
Occasionally, there may be classes or workshops in other rooms of that building, but those locations will be posted.
Events
Looking to attend a full event? Please see Upcoming Events more information!
If you have questions, feel free to email our wonderful Chatelaine or join our Kingdom Discord server.
You can play as much or as little as you want. Our meetings are free and there are no mandatory events that you must attend. Set your own schedule and enjoy!
Our local meetings are completely free.
Many large events do have a ticket price for entry which is usually between $10-$20.
Members of the SCA get a discount for all events!
There is no need to dress up or bring anything for local meetings. If you are interested in fighting or learning a new craft let us know and we will help you! Often there is loaner gear available.
At events it is expected to wear an attempt at middle ages clothing. Let us know if you want to attend and we can let you borrow some loaner clothes or give you advice. No one has perfect clothing (garb) at their first event and only an attempt is requested.
More information on costuming.
The SCA is an educational non-profit so we volunteer our time to help host these great events.
Our Society is built on the ideals of chivalry and courtesy, but runs on the concept of service. Without cooks, marshals, teachers, tent-raisers, hall-decorators, and so forth, no one would get to enjoy any of the activities we have come to know and love. The opportunities for service are practically limitless and the best part is, when everyone gives a little, nobody has to give a lot!
Volunteering to help is never required but it is always appreciated. Just let someone know if you want to help out!
Local Meetings
At our local meetings we try to host at least one class a month. This could be anything from blacksmithing, to camping advice, to sewing, to how to make delicious authentic food.
Cost
Often these classes are free, but sometimes there may be a cost to help cover materials for the class.
Can I teach a class?
Yes! Anything you can share benefits us all. Please speak with the Minister of Arts and Sciences or the Seneschal to get started!
Events
Classes are often taught at events as well! Please look at the event for more details about time, place, and any requirements such as cost.
Paid membership is entirely optional, but has many great benefits:
Discounted entry fees at most events
Membership card – check in at events quickly by presenting your card
Voting privileges in your local group – polls on local group matters are sent to those on the membership list
Holding office - Help the shire or the kingdom as a leader
SCA Publications – while the kingdom newsletters and Board Minutes can be accessed publicly, paid members have the option to subscribe to paper versions, as well as subscribing to Tournaments Illuminated (the quarterly magazine of the Society), and the Compleat Anachronist booklet series.
Our wonderful Chatelaine will help you! Their entire job in our shire is to help you with loaner garb (clothing) and to answer any questions you might have. We want to meet you and show you what we're all about!
